Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig is the lead architect for the new Goldener Hirsch, currently under construction in Silver Lake Village at Deer Valley Resort.
Olson Kundig is pleased to announce that Principal / Owner Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, has been selected for a 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Washington Department of Architecture. The Distinguished Alumni Award honors alumni whose career achievements in architecture have made significant contributions to the built environment of the Puget Sound region and beyond. With this award, the jury recognized the deep influence of Kundig’s work in the Northwest context and his growing impact on the global conversation in architecture.
Kundig received his Bachelor of Science Arts in Environmental Design and a Master of Architecture degree from UW. Over the past three decades, he has received some of the world’s highest design honors, including a National Design Award for Architecture from the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, an Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and an election to the National Academy as an Academician in Architecture. In 2018, Kundig received the AIA Seattle Medal of Honor, the highest honor that AIA Seattle can confer on one of its members.
Tom Kundig remarked on this latest honor by sharing, “I am deeply honored to receive this distinction from the University of Washington Department of Architecture. UW is where I started my architectural career, and while my work continues to take me to new places around the world, Seattle will always be home. I am grateful to receive this award from such an important institution in our region.”
In December, the Tom Kundig designed Millerton Farmhouse was featured in WSJ Magazine.
Tom Kundig was also recently included again in the Architectural Digest AD100.
